Favag S.A., were based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and specialised in the production of high-precision timing apparatus that integrated chronographs, clocks, and other timing systems. The company were at the forefront of creating accurate devices for industrial, scientific, and sports timing applications during the early to mid-20th century, such as in laboratories, for railways, and sports competitions. Favag developed a range of electrical circuit breaker devices, sometimes called ‘chronoscope modules’ which could measure extremely precise intervals if used in conjunction with a chronograph watch for example. These circuit breaker modules were usually electromechanical, where the circuit breaking device would interrupt or create a signal, which the paired chronograph would capture. This allowed operators to measure distinct time intervals down to fractions of a second - a key feature for industrial processes or competitive sports where timing accuracy is essential. The split-second function was especially valuable as it enabled the timing of multiple events from a single start signal, with the circuit breaker stopping the chronograph at different intervals. These innovations ensured Favag gained a reputation for producing reliable tools that were easy to use, particularly if in conjunction with a good quality chronograph watch as we see here.
