336 - A pair of illustrated folios from Jami's Yusuf wa Zulaikha: Yusef in the Well, second half of the 19th century, Northern India, Kashmir, each folio with 5ll. of black ink nasta'liq script to the page, the text divided into two parallel columns, set in cloudbands against a gilt ground, the centre of each folio illustrated with a polychrome gouache depicting scenes from the story of the Prophet Yusuf (Joseph)'s life, pasted on cream-coloured woven paper sheets and in off-white silk-lined mounts (each folio 17 x 9cm; 28 x 18.5cm including mounts) (2) Provenance: A private collection, Surrey. Condition Report: Flaking present to paintwork. Tears present to both - in particular to upper panel of calligraphy. Small tears present to paper and fading.
