Fine carafe with silver plating circa 1900, silver hallmarked 999/1000 Fine, manufacturer’s mark Alvin Corporation USA, ‘Patented’ inscription, model number 3600QT, engraved dedication: “from PSM in gratitude to OW”, colourless glass with a star cut into the base; according to the consignor, from the estate of the luggage manufacturer Mädler in Leipzig; in 1886, Alvin patented a system whereby objects made of various materials were coated with silver and the silver plating was subsequently decorated with openwork, Glass carafe, with a fine silver overlay, decorated with interlaced ribbon motifs featuring openwork, signs of age, marks from standing, H 33.5 cm.
