Scheibe-Alsbach “Salome” Designed around 1910, blue stamp mark 1930-1972, mould number 40, naturalistic form with polychrome overglaze painting and gold decoration; on a rectangular plinth with a relief-carved title, an Art Nouveau beauty dances in an oriental costume adorned with flowers and lavish pearl jewellery, depicting the Canadian-American dancer Maud Allen (1873-1956) in a sensual pose from the then-scandalous dance performance ‘The Vision of Salome’, based on Oscar Wilde’s work, which premiered at the Carltheater in Vienna in 1906; in good condition for its age, H 37 cm.
