Guillaume Dupré (1576–1643), appointed chief sculptor to King Henry IV in 1611 and later controller of hallmarks and coins for France, was one of the most renowned medalists of the Ancien Régime. The Keller brothers (Jean-Jacques and Jean-Balthasar) were famous Swiss goldsmiths and casters. Having settled in Paris at Colbert’s suggestion, they took over the Dupré foundry at the Arsenal in 1654.
