Late 17th-century French School Louise Marie de La Grange d’Arquien, Marquise de Béthune Oil on canvas H_72 cm W_58.5 cm Re-stretched, restored This painting depicts Louise-Marie de La Grange d’Arquien, the elder sister of Marie-Casimire-Louise de La Grange d’Arquien, Queen of Poland. She accompanied her sister to the Polish court, where she held an important position, prior to her exile in 1728. The hospital in Selles-sur-Cher, founded by the great Sully, her husband’s uncle, houses another portrait of Louise-Marie de La Grange d’Arquien, in a rectangular format. This portrait follows the same composition as ours but is of inferior quality.
