“Galerie Royale des Costumes – Abd el-Kader’s Troops and Algeria” Large folio (52 x 34 cm) containing 30 color lithographic plates This collection includes plates 11 through 30 from the “Persians and Algerians” series and the 10 plates titled “Abd el-Kader’s Troops” described by Colas under number 1163. It thus brings together all the plates devoted to Algeria in this famous and rare series produced during the reign of Louis-Philippe. They are, of course, of great historical and ethnographic interest. It features both the first uniform worn by the Algerian skirmishers and the Zouaves, and thus Abd el-Kader’s army as it fought in the 1840s. Such a complete series on this theme is rare. Reference: Colas 1163
