Anonymous British artist “Collection of military-themed watercolors, circa 1823–1824” Italian-style folio, loose-leaf, containing a collection of watercolors that can be dated to around the late 1820s. Some plates are dated “City Hall, December 15, 1823” (a celebration marking the victorious Spanish campaign). Some figures are named: Monsieur d’Hérisson, the “Adonis of the Bodyguards,” the Duke of Orléans, and Martin de Puiseux, “killed in the Carlist War.” Indeed, Henri Martin de Puiseux died in Portugal in 1834. The captions are in French, but often in English—so the author is likely British. Eyewitness account dating from the Second Restoration A.B.E. Some loose pages, minor wear. Count the number of watercolors.
