B.E. Background: Finart, born in 1787, was active in Paris beginning in 1814. He observed French and foreign military personnel in the capital and produced numerous watercolors as a result. Several of these were used for the three-part series “Uniforms of the Allied Armies.” The largest collection of Finart’s watercolors is held in the “Royal Collection” belonging to the British monarch. It can be assumed that they were purchased for the Prince Regent, a great lover of uniforms. The 14 watercolors in our collection are very similar to those in the Royal Collection and even seem to complement it. There is only one plate depicting the Royal Guard’s mounted artillery; there are no Royal Guard hussars viewed from the front, etc.
