“French Army 1763” 47 plates, 45 of which are enhanced with watercolor, depicting the uniforms of the Royal Army as prescribed by the 1762 regulations. Facsimile of manuscript A1J15, housed in the library of Les Invalides. This work was the 15th to be published, likely around 1959–1960 by the Compagnie d’Élite, based on tracings by Lucien Rousselot and hand-colored by Pillas. Only 10 copies were printed. The title actually indicates the year 1762. In excellent condition. Provenance: former collection of Christian Ariès, with his bookplate. History: The “Compagnie d’Élite” was a group of passionate enthusiasts and collectors who, beginning in 1935, pooled their resources to publish high-quality facsimiles of rare or unique documents and manuscripts held in public or private collections. Christian Ariès, the renowned expert on bladed weapons, was one of its founders, and this is his copy.
