QUENTIN-BAUCHART, Ernest. Queen Marie-Antoinette’s Library at the Tuileries Palace. An authentic catalog published based on the manuscript held by the National Library. Paris: Damascène Morgand, 1884; in-24, [2] leaves, xxii-x-181-[3] pp., slightly later binding in blue-gray morocco; the covers and spine, smooth, decorated with mosaic-style red and gilded florets, the Queen’s monogram in the center of the upper cover, the ex-libris of the Château de Vertcoeur in the center of the lower cover, gilt interior lace, gilt headband, cover and spine (Yseux, Sr. de Simier-Thierry). As the first attempt to classify the books in Marie-Antoinette’s library at the Tuileries, this catalog is important for authenticating certain bindings bearing the Queen’s coat of arms, although in principle all the books from this library are held at the BnF. Printed in an edition of 300 numbered copies on fine laid paper; this particular copy is uncollated and bears an autograph dedication from the author to the engraver Eugène Abot. A lovely decorated binding signed by Yseux, commissioned for the publisher René Philippon (1881–1972) and featuring his bookplate depicting the Château de Vertcoeur. — A modern bookplate engraved by J. de Andrada and a KF bookplate. Included is a 20th-century engraving plate featuring Marie-Antoinette’s monogram, very similar to the one used for the Yseux binding.
