"Paul-Émile LECOMTE (1877–1950) A Walk in the Woods at Anet, Eure. Drawing and wash, signed and dated in the lower right corner. 28 x 25 cm Paul-Émile Lecomte was born in Paris in 1877. A student of Cormon, he began exhibiting at the Salon in 1911. A master draftsman, Lecomte was also a skilled colorist. Water is the central element of his work, and he perfectly mastered its variations, creating a style reminiscent of his contemporary Louis Aston Knight (1873–1948). Consequently, he was quite logically appointed Official Painter to the Navy in 1921. This ink wash, executed with great finesse, illustrates the artist’s drawing skills."
