136 - "Jean THOMAS (1923–2019) Above Honfleur, 1971. Oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right; label on the back countersigned by the artist with title and date. 40 x 80 cm After beginning his career in the tradition of Léger and Matisse, he turned to landscape painting, which he depicted in a highly personal style, producing images of almost photographic precision. Through a precise study of light and great pictorial mastery, his works reflect a movement: postwar realist landscapes. Jean Thomas thrives on travel, both throughout France and around the world, from the United States to Polynesia. He kept a notebook in which each painting is cataloged and geolocated, and set out to explore the four corners of the world—from Corsica to Normandy to New York."
