"Roland DUBUC (1924–1998) Busy Street in Rouen, 1971. Watercolor signed and dated in the lower right corner. 55 x 42 cm In Rouen, Dubuc met Le Trividic and Fréchon, then moved to Le Havre in the mid-1940s before trying his luck in Paris in 1950. There, he struggled to make a living from his art and took on a variety of odd jobs. He even went so far as to sell a Wallace fountain to American tourists who returned to the site the next day, armed with pickaxes, only to leave empty-handed. His reputation grew. He exhibited works at the Grand Palais in the exhibition “Les Grands et les Jeunes d’Aujourd’hui”. The Petit Palais purchased some of his paintings. The last painter of Montmartre from the era of Genin, Utrillo, and Gen-Paul, Dubuc painted throughout his life with the same expressionist verve. He returned to settle in Normandy in the twilight of his life."
