Saarbataillon Model 45 Helmet, 57. Helmet made entirely of aluminum and modeled after the Model 45 helmet. The leather headband is secured by four clasps. There is a dent on the front of the headband, as well as a slight chip. The tabs on the leather liner are riveted. Original leather chin strap. The neck flap is slightly smaller than on the standard Model 45. Over 90% of the factory-applied khaki paint remains. Two small holes at the front intended for attaching an insignia. Some signs of wear; a relatively uncommon headgear style. The Saarbataillon, the riot control force of the Saar region, was established in April 1946 under French command. This helmet was used exclusively by the Saarbataillon. When this autonomous region was incorporated into the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) in 1957, these police officers were transferred to the state’s Bereitschaftspolizei. An all-aluminum helmet based on the Model 1945, featuring a leather sweatband secured by four clips, riveted leather liner flaps, and an original leather chin strap. The front sweatband has a dent, and there is slight wear; the neck guard is slightly smaller than standard. Over 90% of the original factory khaki paint remains; there are two front holes for a badge. A rare helmet worn exclusively by the Saarbataillon, the Saar riot police unit formed under French command in April 1946. Following the Saar’s incorporation into West Germany in 1957, its officers were absorbed into the state’s Bereitschaftspolizei.
