Displays the ongoing report. Black-and-white photo with colored text excerpted from Pierre Laval’s speech in Compiègne on August 11, 1942. Visa V II 200. This poster is part of the Vichy government’s campaign to encourage young French people to go work in Germany. It depicts the first return of French prisoners of war—a return that was heavily staged. The Vichy government sought to turn this into a major public celebration in order to encourage more men to go. The excerpt from Pierre Laval’s speech, reproduced on the poster, echoes the values of liberty and fraternity—elements of the motto of a republic that had, however, been abolished by the Vichy regime. Dimensions approximately 80 x 120 cm. Numerous professional repairs on the back. A few visible tears. Note some wear and patina on the piece. Condition II+. Black-and-white Vichy propaganda poster promoting labor in Germany, quoting Pierre Laval, approximately 80 by 120 cm, professionally repaired.
