French Militia Model 41 jacket for Alpine Hunters. Made of thick black cloth with the regulation martingale fastened by two buttons. Half-ball buttons are present and mostly in their original color. Gold braid sewn onto the shoulder tabs, corresponding to the rank of cohort group leader. Three decoration ribbons, sewn above the left breast pocket: the WWI Croix de Guerre, the 1940 Croix de Guerre, and the Military Medal. Silver-colored skulls at each corner of the collar. These emblems are not regulation but may correspond to the symbolism of the insignia of the infamous Groupe Spécial de Sécurité (GSS) of the French Militia, considered the armed wing of the Militia and led by Joannes Tomasi. The insignia have not been removed in order to inspect the fastenings. The Militia’s “Gamma” emblem in silver filigree on a black cloth background, hand-sewn onto the right breast pocket. Double lining in black silky fabric. A few visible repairs. No visible markings. Note: slight wear and patina on the item. Condition I. An item of the utmost rarity.
