An Aircraft Scope by Dr. Walter Gerard / Oigee, 1918 Rifle scope for "Luft MG 08/15" machine guns and others. 45 cm long scope; the blackened brass tube has a diameter of 42 mm; the eyepiece housing is likely zinc; approximately 40% of the black lacquer finish remains. Diameter of the eyepiece lens: approx. 47 mm. A yellow filter is screwed in. Eyepiece housing marked with “Dr. Walter Gérard / Optische Anstalt / Charlottenburg / 785 - 30022 / Field of view at 1000 m = 200 m / (+) = 8 / 400 m / Magnification 2x / according to D.R.P." In a cartouche below: "Oigee / Berlin." Serial number 785/30022. Elevation adjustment at the bottom via a square-head wrench (missing), no scale. Optics are clear and undamaged, except for a few minimal, non-obtrusive specks of dust. The reticle consists of a cross set within a circle. The diameter of the circle corresponds to 8 m at a distance of 400 m. The rain tube on the objective side is missing. The rifle scope was mounted on machine guns rigidly attached to the aircraft fuselage. An absolute rarity from the final days of the air war around 1918. Condition: II +
