A DWM/BKIW Luger, post-1920 Cal. 7.65 mm Luger, No. 8604 u, assembled from parts at DWM; mostly matching serial numbers, the firing pin marked “21,” no serial numbers on the barrel, trigger guard, chamber catch, grip panels, or magazine. Polished barrel, length 98 mm. Eight-round capacity. Crown/“N” mark only on the trigger guard. “DWM” logo on the front hinge. U-shaped rear sight, looped bar front sight. The original finish shows only minimal signs of wear; only the bolt assembly has been re-blued, and may have been replaced. Walnut grip panels with a fine fish-scale grain in excellent condition. Blued folding magazine with a wooden base. After the end of World War I, DWM was renamed Karlsruher-Industriewerke in Berlin and, in accordance with the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles, was permitted to manufacture only firearms for the civilian market and for export. To this end, remaining parts from wartime production were reused, which is why it is quite normal for some parts to have no serial numbers or to bear different ones. Rare!
