4028 - A pair of converted double-barreled percussion pistols, Johann Andreas Kuchenreuter in Regensburg, circa 1800

A pair of converted double-barreled percussion pistols, Johann Andreas Kuchenreuter in Regensburg, circa 1800 Cal. .48 (black powder), no serial number; each has two octagonal damask barrels with smooth, nearly polished bores in 12.2 mm caliber; the muzzles are recessed. A gold-lined gunsmith’s mark above each chamber. The signature “Joh. And. Kuchenreiter” and “an Regensburg” inlaid in silver on the barrels, surrounded by floral silver inlays. Screw-mounted damask barrel rails inlaid with silver beads between the barrels. Folding brass rear sights with remnants of the original gold plating, each engraved with “1” and “2,” respectively. Fitted percussion locks, signed again in front of the hammers. Cocking notches are unreliable; locks are somewhat stiff. Double trigger. Finely cut full stocks with silver fittings; silver thumb plates surrounded by silver wire inlays. Thumb plates each engraved with a crown, antlers, and a cross. Pistol “2” has undergone professional repair on the thumb plate, and pistol “1” has a previous stock break at the neck of the stock. Horn ramrods with silver ferrules, showing minor signs of wear.
