A percussion revolver-shotgun by Fischer in Schaffhausen, ca. 1840 Caliber .55 (black powder), No. 21, nearly bare barrel. Length 75 cm. Wide, forward-tapered barrel rib with a bead sight. The barrel rail extends over the cylinder and connects to the action box. Barrel has been brown-finished at a later date. Five-shot, rotating, fluted cylinder with traces of bluing. Pistons are missing. Closed at the rear by a flash guard attached to the receiver. At the front, the four open chambers are covered by a metal plate. Original, color-hardened receiver with a right-side hammer lock featuring a recoil spring; the hammer has a minimal hairline crack. Lock plate marked “J.C. Fischer Schaffhausen.” Curved trigger guard. Dark, lacquered, vividly grained stock with finely carved fish-scale checkering and a German-style cheek piece. Iron butt plate. Later-made ramrod. Sling swivel. To transport the gun further after cocking the hammer, the cylinder must be pulled firmly backward toward the breech block. It can then be rotated one chamber further before spring force returns it forward to its final position. The firearm has been slightly refurbished. Johann Conrad Fischer, Schaffhausen (1773–1854); according to *Der Neue Stöckel*, Vol. 1, p. 372, he visited Samuel Pauly and Henri LePage in Paris and Joseph Egg in London. A first-rate rarity in very good condition. According to our research, no other weapon of this design is known to exist. Length: 124 cm.
