An M 1904 helmet for troopers in the Royal Saxon Carabinier Regiment (2nd Heavy Regiment) Tombac shell with a beaded rear crown, riveted, smooth front visor, riveted neck guard, nickel silver trim (troop stamp “C.4.I” for the Carabinier Regiment, 4th Squadron) and spherical rivets. Screwed onto the front (double holes, solder marks) is the silver-plated star with a coat of arms overlay (small dents). Leather-lined convex scale chains (the front link is missing) attached to screwed-on geometric rosettes; on the right is the imperial cockade and on the left the provincial cockade, both made of lacquered sheet iron. At the top, a silver-plated pointed oval base with four round-head screws and a removable smooth tombac tip. Well-preserved blackened leather lining on the straps (a few small missing areas); the underside of the front visor is painted green (worn); the lower part of the neck visor is covered in dark brown leather (leather missing in places); at the crown of the helmet is the manufacturer’s stamp “G.H. Osang Dresden” and the size mark “58.” Also included is a field-gray cover that does not fit perfectly (four hooks) and a helmet case (leather covering incomplete). Partially slightly damaged, with signs of wear and age. Rare and impressive. Starting in 1904, the front visor of Saxon enlisted men’s helmets was no longer serrated, in accordance with the Prussian Model 1889. Condition: II–III
