Marie of Bavaria, Queen of the Two Sicilies (1841–1925) – a life-sized portrait photograph in an ornate frame, circa 1875 Oval black-and-white half-length portrait photograph showing her in a dark, satin-gloss dress, her hair in a net. Under glass, in an exceptionally richly decorated, gilded ornamental frame (partially chipped in places; some decorative elements are missing but can be replaced). On the reverse, a wooden backing and a paper label reading “1267.” Dimensions of the oval image: 76 x 55 cm. Frame dimensions: 100 x 75 cm. Large-format photograph, likely by Joseph Albert (1825–1886), the court photographer of the Bavarian royal family, who—as the first Wittelsbach court photographer—was known for his subtle characterizations and whose art is on par with Franz Xaver Winterhalter’s portraits of the nobility. An absolute rarity from the former Wittelsbach collection. Provenance: Tegernsee Castle Condition: II
