Prince Otto of Bavaria (1848–1916) – a life-size portrait photograph in an ornate frame, circa 1864 Black-and-white photograph of Ludwig II’s brother as a half-length portrait in a Bavarian uniform with epaulets, his hair parted down the middle, his gaze dreamily directed upward. Under glass, in an exceptionally richly decorated, gilded ornamental frame (partially slightly chipped). On the reverse, a wooden backing with a paper label reading “H.M.1869.” Dimensions of the image oval: 76 x 57 cm. Frame dimensions: 99 x 81 cm. Large-format photograph, likely by Joseph Albert (1825–1886), the court photographer of the Bavarian royal family, who—as the first Wittelsbach court photographer—was known for his subtle characterization and whose art is on par with Franz Xaver Winterhalter’s portraits of princes. An absolute rarity from the former Wittelsbach collection. Provenance: Tegernsee Castle Condition: II
