A fine South German burgonet with three combs, probably from Augsburg, circa 1530–40 A one-piece hammered bell with three sturdy serrated combs. A one-piece, tapered visor with a flanged and laced edge. The visor and crown feature multiple pairs of holes for attaching the velvet lining; there are two peg holes at the nape. Hinge-mounted cheek flaps, each with seven perforated ear openings and finely flanged and laced edges. Remnants of the original chin strap are attached. A short neck guard crafted in one piece. Remnants of the old leather lining are visible on the inside. An attached metal plaque bears the collection number “23.” Height: 27 cm.
