A Chinese dao with a stingray-skin cover, China, 19th century. Back blade with double fuller on both sides. Oval guard with fine relief on both sides, showing traces of gilding; the ferrule and pommel are similarly gilded. The tang is wrapped in stingray skin and a brass band. Wooden scabbard with brass fittings showing traces of gilding and a finely polished stingray skin covering. Belt buckle included. Length 69 cm. Condition: II
