A Borneo bronze gong (tawak-tawak), 18th/19th century A single-piece cast bronze gong with a beautiful patina of age. Central bulge featuring a circumferential depiction of a crab, flanked by two dragons. Circumferential decorative frieze; floral decoration on the sides. Diameter 32 cm. These gongs were used exclusively as primitive currency for barter transactions in Southeast Asia at the time and therefore do not produce a good sound. Condition: II
