Celtic and Early Iron Age jewelry from Southeastern Europe, seven pieces, 4th–1st centuries B.C. 1) Early Greek silver brooch from the Archaic period. 8th–7th centuries B.C. A hollow-worked arch, thickened in the center, with a seam on the underside. A two-and-a-half-turn spiral with a pin resting in a rectangular box made of silver sheet. The box has missing sections, which have been skillfully restored by inserting modern metal sheets, thereby also stabilizing the preserved fragments of the pin’s locking mechanism. On the fully preserved upper side of the pin holder, there is incised decoration featuring a St. Andrew’s cross, three swastikas, and a triangle in the corners. Length 5.5 cm. Despite the restoration of the pin holder, this is a rare and impressive specimen. 2) Illyrian bronze brooch with a triple-coiled spiral and a profiled bar with a raised knee. 1st century B.C. Intact. Length 8.4 cm. 3) Fragment of an Early La Tène bronze brooch. 4th century BCE. Finely decorated arch with a distorted four-turn spiral. Base broken off. Preserved length 4.7 cm. 4) Fragment of the backward-curving foot of an Early La Tène brooch, which terminated in a hollowed-out, spherical end featuring six sculpted volutes with a distinctive profile. 4th century B.C. Preserved length 3.7 cm. 5) Celtic cap for a lost pin, which was clamped between the beaks of two stylized bird heads. 2nd century B.C. Height 1.6 cm. Width 1.7 cm. 6) Illyrian arm ring, with ends that overlap significantly on the front side. The front side is up to 3.4 cm wide and distinctly ribbed, with engraved decoration in the grooves. The back side is only about 7 mm wide. Diameter 7.6 cm. Weight 58 g. 7) Illyrian silver band made of thick silver wire with ends that overlap significantly; these are wound around the band in five-turn spirals. Diameter 8.5 cm. Weight 20 g. CULTURAL HERITAGE! Provenance: Private collection in southern Germany (acquired from an estate), purchased by the father between the 1970s and 1990s from art dealers in southern Germany.
