A pair of Early Iron Age bronze fibulae with a double spiral and an olive-green patina, 9th–8th centuries B.C. Two identically constructed fibulae of the same size with the same patina. In the center is a bronze wire approximately 4 mm thick, shaped into two opposing, conical spiral discs with ten coils. The bronze wire tapers toward the tips of the cones and is only about 2.5 mm thick there. At the tips of the cones is an opening of about 4 mm through which the thinned wire is threaded. On one side, it is bent at a right angle near the base of the cone and continues as a needle; on the other side, it forms a hook-shaped needle catch inside the cone. Lengths: 12.3 and 13 cm. Very beautiful, satin-matte patina in an olive-green hue with minimal flaking. CULTURAL HERITAGE! Provenance: Private collection in northern Germany, acquired in the 1980s on the German art market. Condition: II +
