Early Byzantine bronze flask, 6th–7th centuries A.D. 16.3 cm wide, flat base. Above it, a conical body that tapers only slightly toward the bottom. A distinct, angular break toward the shoulder, which slopes only slightly upward toward the 10.5 cm long, conical neck. The neck transitions at the top into a projecting rim 3 cm high, which tapers slightly. A removable lid, 3.5 cm high and 6 cm wide, sits on the rim; the center is raised by a step. In a central hole on the underside, the remains of an iron split pin are still visible; on the upper side, this likely formed a loop. Subtle, irregular hammer marks are visible across the entire surface. On the neck, however, the surface has been deliberately textured over its entire length using long, oval-shaped punches. The lid has five perforations at the upper edge. In the upper part of the wall, there is damage on one side in the form of a small hole. Otherwise intact. Total height 29.5 cm. CULTURAL HERITAGE! Provenance: French private collection, acquired on June 24, 2008, at Gorny & Mosch, Munich, Auction 168 Condition: II -
