Late Roman full-cheek snaffle, late 3rd–4th century A.D. Two-piece bit, connected in the middle by two interlocking loops. At the ends are two offset, solid rings, each with a flat snaffle bit slide through an elongated slot with rounded corners. These are held in place by larger rings—rectangular in cross-section—with overlapping ends that pass through the outer rings of the two-part bit. The snaffle bars are straight on one side and slightly tapered from the center toward the ends on the other. On the reverse side, behind the central slit, there is an oblong eyelet for threading a leather strap from the bridle. The ends of the bit shanks feature a profile typical of late Roman metal objects. Transverse fluting and two semicircular notches on each edge. An exceptionally well-preserved, expertly restored, and sturdy iron bridle with only minimal traces of corrosion, clearly revealing all details of its technical craftsmanship and ornamentation. Extremely rare to find in such excellent condition. Width when laid out: approx. 23.5 cm. Height: 15.3 cm. CULTURAL HERITAGE! Condition: I -
