Etruscan votive head, 7th–6th centuries B.C. A strikingly stylized, archaic votive head made of light, reddish-brown clay. A bald man with a neck that tapers slightly upward. The anatomical details—such as the mouth, nose, eyes with eyelids and eyebrows, and ears—are all precisely rendered, yet retain a certain schematism that gives the face a mask-like appearance. The nearly life-size head is a masterpiece in excellent condition, showing only minimal chipping along the lower edge. Heads of this kind were used as covers for urns or as votive heads in sanctuaries. Height 21 cm. A thermoluminescence analysis from 1994 confirms the age of the votive head. CULTURAL HERITAGE! Provenance: Private collection in Upper Austria (estate), acquired by the father in the 1980s on the Austrian and southern German art market. Condition: I -
