Two Bronze Phalerae (pectoral and dorsal armor), Italic, 6th–5th Century B.C. Two circular bronze phalerae with a central boss, divided outwardly by two stepped sections into three concentric, smooth zones—the inner ones wide, the outer ones narrow. Each has one inner fastening element (rivet or retaining pin) at the edge of the central bulge, and two additional fastenings with narrow iron bands immediately at the rim. Both discs feature a flat malachite patina, reddish-brown oxide deposits, and incrustations. Minimal edge chips. Diameter of each: 18.5 cm. A typological interpretation as part of a disc-shaped armor of the type found in ancient Italian kardiophylakes (cf. Krieger von Capestrano, Museo Nazionale d’Abruzzo) is worth considering. CULTURAL HERITAGE! Provenance: Private French collection. Acquired from Hermann Historica, Munich, April 22, 2009, Auction 57, Lot 303 (together with four other phalerae). Axel Guttmann Collection (1944–2001). Condition: II
