SÉVIGNÉ (Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de). Letters from Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de Sévigné, to her daughter and friends. Edited and published by Silvestre de Sacy. Paris, Techener, 1861. 11 in-8 volumes, red morocco leather, richly decorated ribbed spine, gilt title and volume number, place and date at the foot, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, double gilt fillet on the edges, interior lace, gilt edges (Belz-Niédrée). A new, carefully printed edition, of which a few copies were printed on Holland paper. This is the case with this copy, which, as it should be, includes the two portraits of Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, Marquise de Sévigné, and Françoise Marguerite de Sévigné, Countess of Grignan, drawn and etched by Jules Jacquemart in two states (one in a pink frame and one unframed). (Vicaire VII, 485.) The spine is heavily sun-faded, but otherwise it is a superb set in a beautiful signed morocco binding. Ex-libris of Philip H. Ashworth.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
