PÉLADAN (Joséphin). Semiramis. sl, sn, sd [1897]. In-4, paperback, printed cover (faded). A very rare first edition on an esoteric subject, a theme dear to “Sâr” Péladan. This is the fifth tragedy of the Théâtre de la Rose-Croix written for Sarah Bernhardt. Founded by Péladan as an extension of the Salons de la Rose-Croix, this Symbolist theater sought to counter naturalism with a sacred and initiatory dramatic art, drawing its inspiration from mythology, mysticism, and esotericism. A note on the back of the title page indicates a limited print run of just a few copies, all signed; this copy, printed on Japanese paper and uncut, bears no signature. The inner spine is very slightly detached, with a few scattered tiny pinholes.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
