LA FONTAINE (Jean de). Contes et Nouvelles en vers. A Amsterdam, sn, 1762. 2 volumes small in-8, xiv-[2]-268-[2] pp. and [2]-viii-[2]-306-[3] pp. Marbled calf, ornate smooth spines, green and brown titles, red endpapers, triple gilt fillet around covers, red edges (period binding). Joints worn, some restorations. First attempt at the famous Fermiers Généraux edition (without the separate suite of engravings). It has the same composition, but the format is slightly smaller, and the woodcuts are engraved here. "This edition is extremely rare, according to Cohen. (Cohen 568; Rochambeau p. 524 n°78.)
