LAURENCIN (Marie), 1883–1956. Autograph letter signed “Marie,” undated, on blue paper bearing her initials, 2 pp., in-8, to her dear Ventura. In this intimate and touching letter, Marie Laurencin complains, not without irony, about being pressured to work hard, while asserting—with her usual detachment—her contempt for fame. She then confides a deeper sorrow: she has just learned by chance that her ex-husband, the German painter Otto von Wätjen, from whom she had divorced in 1921, has remarried. Laurencin admits to having cried upon hearing the news, though she acknowledges that she is glad he is no longer alone; however, she laments that he did not tell her anything.
