HERVIEU (Louise), 1878–1954. C.A.S. “Louise Hervieu,” Boulogne, June 18, 1935, 2 pages, oblong in-12 format, with envelope, addressed to the painter and critic Édouard Chimot. A beautiful postcard in which the artist and woman of letters thanks Édouard Chimot for his glowing praise of her drawings exhibited at the Salon des Femmes Artistes Modernes. In this particularly moving letter, Louise Hervieu discusses her fragile health, her isolation, and the suffering that accompanies her artistic work. She confides that she never watches the drawings born of her solitude leave her side without anxiety, fearing that they bear the mark of her suffering. Finally, she explains that an episode of meningitis prevented her from thanking her correspondent sooner.
