SAINTE-BEUVE (Charles Augustin), 1804–1869. Autograph letter signed “Ste Beuve,” undated, July 7 [no year], 1 p., in-8, Arm. S. de Sacy collection stamp. A congratulatory letter addressed to Ustazade Silvestre de Sacy (1801–1879, literary critic for the *Journal des Débats*, curator of the Bibliothèque Mazarine, and member of the Académie française) regarding his article published in the *Débats*: “an article in which everything is not analysis, but narrative and movement." He says he is “thus consoled by this pleasant half-hour of not doing what you wanted to see me do—socialite that you are!” Enclosed is another autograph letter from the same author, undated, 1 p., in-8, addressed to a friend. He says he is quite tired: “resuming my lectures is proving difficult for me.” After stating his availability, he says he has not seen Dentu, “but someone must have spoken to him at some point, and he showed no eagerness to come see me.” He concludes: “I received *La Photographie vivante*!” -
