MONTESQUIOU (Robert de), 1855–1921. Autograph letter "RM," undated, "Friday," 2 pp. and 1/3 folio, in blue pencil, with envelope (postmark Paris, 12/26/1909), to Monsieur de Richter. An amusing “gastronomic” letter. He must be explaining to him “a transparent prank, which was the thank-you for what [he had] announced.” “[...] No sooner had my letter been sent than the first of the season’s produce appeared. I really had to extend my stay to keep up with all these delicacies. But I’m working twice as hard, and I’ll get through it.” In a postscript: “When you return, you’ll find my prayers waiting for you. As penance for leading me into ‘la dannosa colpa della gola,’ you will recite the Cook’s Prayer seven times.”
