LEBLANC (Maurice), 1864–1941. Autograph letter signed “Maurice Leblanc,” undated, February 11, 1915, 2 pp., in-8, to a friend. An interesting letter from the father of Arsène Lupin concerning the great Belgian writer Maurice MAETERLINCK (1862–1949), winner of the 1911 Nobel Prize in Literature and Maurice Leblanc’s brother-in-law. Since his telephone was being repaired, he conveyed Maeterlinck’s refusal to give the lecture, despite the efforts of his wife Georgette (née Leblanc). “[...] For him, giving a lecture is not only torture but a physical impossibility. After a few minutes, his voice chokes up to the point that not a single word of what he says can be heard. [...] “Maurice Leblanc cites as proof the Milan lecture, which was read by a Belgian member of parliament ‘[...] and not by him, as had been believed [...]’.”
