APOLLINAIRE (Guillaume), 1880–1918. Autograph letter signed "G. Apollinaire," October 28, 1917, unsigned, 1 p., oblong 8vo, with its envelope stamped October 28, 1917, and bearing the seal of the Ministry of War’s Press Office, addressed to Maurice Verne in Paris and subsequently forwarded to Vichy; a lovely, friendly letter promising to send several of his major works: “Dear friend, I sent you my Baudelaire yesterday. I will soon send you a booklet I put together with Rouveyre—(he did the illustrations, I wrote the verses). I will also send you ‘Les Mamelles’ in the near future, and I hope to send you ‘Caligrammes’ soon […]” and in a postscript: “I’m enclosing a few subscription forms in case you have any bibliophile friends. This isn’t for you, mind you. Your copy will be sent to you by mail, of course.” Accompanied by its original cultural property export certificate from the Ministry of Culture.
