CUVIER (Georges), 1769–1832. L.S. “G. Vauquier” and “Vauquelin,” undated [May 5, 1809, according to a later handwritten note in pencil], 1 p. in-4. Cuvier sends his correspondent (“Your Excellency”) the report prepared by Thouin and Desfontaines on the objects entrusted to them for examination. He takes this opportunity to invite him to visit their facility and see for himself “[...] what remains to be done to improve it. Your own observation will be worth more than any written account [...] The warm season is far enough along that this outing will not be unpleasant for you [...]” In 1808–1809, Georges Cuvier was director of the Museum; Vauquelin was professor of applied chemistry there; Desfontaines was professor of botany; and André Thouin was in charge of plant cultivation and taxonomy.
