[HOZIER (Louis Pierre d’)]. General Armorial of France. Volume 1. Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 1821. Large quarto, xl-909-[1] pp., paperback, with a contemporary temporary cover. New edition of this important genealogical and heraldic compendium, originally published by Louis-Pierre d’Hozier between 1738 and 1768 and continued by his son Ambroise-Louis-Marie d’Hozier. This first volume, preceded by texts on the nobility and coats of arms, compiles the genealogies of a large number of French families, illustrated with their coats of arms engraved within the text. The work is adorned with a portrait of Louis XV (engraved) and seven separate heraldic plates, as well as numerous coats of arms within the text. The reprint was intended to continue and complete the original work; however, only a second volume was published in 1823, and the project remained unfinished.
