A pair of monumental malachite vases with ormolu mounts featuring rams Massive vases carved from stone, clad in lustrous malachite, with appliqués of gilded bronze and partial brass appliqués/inlays. Resting on four fire-gilded feet in the shape of mythical creatures (paws with winged lion heads), a square base with plaques featuring floral decoration applied on all sides. Above this, the vase bodies feature golden leaf decoration at the base of the walls. A solid laurel garland is applied to the base and body of the vase. On each side are two large, sculpted ram’s heads made of gilded bronze. Heavy snap-on lid with relief leaf decoration. Small interior with brass inlay. Dimensions 69 x 50 x 37 cm, height without base 51 cm. A very magnificent pair in the Louis XVI style. Please note: Pickup only, or please request a shipping quote before the auction!
