A standing desk, based on a design by Joseph Urban (Vienna 1872–1933 New York), model designed in 1908, 20th century Mahogany, partially veneered, with mother-of-pearl and metal inlays as well as what appear to be nickel-plated brass fittings. Black leather upholstery with a silver plated ornamental border. Tall rectangular body with a sloped writing surface supported by four legs that taper downward. Curved side panels featuring beaded moldings and stylized plant and lily-flower motifs. Based on Urban’s 1908 design for the standing desk accompanying the imperial jubilee work “An Ehren und an Siegen reich” (Rich in Honor and Victories). Wood surfaces show scratches, scuff marks, and isolated dents. A few mother-of-pearl inlays are missing; the missing areas have been partially filled with silver plated material. Metal surfaces are scuffed, and the silver plated coating has worn away in places, exposing the yellowish base metal. Modern star-shaped screws on the underside of the body indicate later alterations. It cannot be ruled out that the leather upholstery and some fastenings have been replaced. Dimensions approx. 100 × 84.2 × 55.5 cm. Please note: Pickup only; or please request a shipping quote before the auction. Condition: II - III
