A shooting target featuring an elk, German, 20th century, oil on wood Oil on wood. Stamped on the reverse with “D.R.G.M.” and “D.R.P. ang.”; handwritten inscription, possibly “Steindorf.” On a round wooden panel with an inlaid frame, an elk standing in profile, head turned to the right, flanked by reed-like forms; the lower section suggests a body of water. The background, illuminated by a warm glow behind the antlers, darkens toward the edges to dark violet-brown tones. The paint is applied in a covering layer with a confident brushstroke, particularly pronounced in the antler and reed sections. The moose motif is less common on German marksmen’s targets than the more familiar stag motif. The paint layer adheres well across the entire surface, with no visible flaking or missing areas.
