Large Lapis Lazuli Egg, Afghanistan, late 20th century Polished lapis lazuli on a round wooden base. Cut into an ovoid shape. Blue, nearly horizontally banded matrix with whitish-gray calcite sections and golden pyrite speckles. Polished surface with isolated fine scratch marks. Several longer, partly branching fissures at the apex and along the long sides. On one long side, a larger dark gray area with a noticeably different, matte surface texture, approx. 1 × 3 cm; likely a repair. Base shows signs of abrasion and isolated areas where the surface coating is missing. Egg height approx. 33 cm, base height approx. 4 cm. Condition: II -
