“Par Force Hunt,” Fritz Möritz (Düsseldorf 1922–1994 Niederzier) Oil on canvas. Signed “Fritz Möritz” in the lower right corner; the signature is difficult to read. A mounted hunting party with a pack of dogs on a forest path in an autumnal landscape; a group of towering trees on the right, with a lighter-toned section of forest in the background. In places, the paint is applied in a thick, textured manner, creating a relief effect. The canvas has a localized convex deformation in the upper right portion of the painting, to the right of the central axis. The paint layer in this area exhibits craquelure, raised clumps of paint, and small areas of loss. The frame shows signs of wear and a fine network of cracks in the mount. Painting dimensions 70.5 × 90.5 cm, frame dimensions 86 × 106 cm. Möritz was a painter active in Düsseldorf; hunting and forest scenes form a frequently documented group within his body of work.
