London.- Before the Great Fire of 1666.- Scolari (Stefano) Londra, engraved panorama, printed on four sheets, conjoined, total sheet 425 x 2130 mm (16 3/4 x 83 3/4 in), laid onto linen support, numerous repaired tears, numerous sheet losses expertly restored in facsimile, within image but predominantly marginal, surface dirt and handling creases, unframed, [circa 1660] *** Scarce at auction. Impressive panorama of London before the fire, published in Venice, and likely based on Nicolas Visscher's panorama printed in 1616. Ralph Hyde identifies Scolari's print as a later variant of Franco Vallegio's interpretation of Visscher's panorama, but with the image heavily reworked. We have been unable to trace another example offered at auction.
